1 Chronicles 19:6-9 King James Version (KJV)
6 And when the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Syriamaachah, and out of Zobah.
7 So they hired thirty and two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people; who came and pitched before Medeba. And the children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
8 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.
9 And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array before the gate of the city: and the kings that were come were by themselves in the field.

6 ¶ And when the sons of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the sons of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and horsemen out of Syria of the rivers (Mesopotamia), and out of Syria of Maachah and out of Zobah.
7 So they hired thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maachah and his people, who came and pitched camp before Medeba. And the sons of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities and came to battle.
8 And when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the host of the mighty men.
9 And the sons of Ammon came out and put the battle in order before the gate of the city, and the kings that had come were by themselves in the field.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
6 David did not hate them but knew that the Lord had given the land to the Israelites and was because of what they did choosing to take it. So they get the army ready and hire one for them, the problem was not only was the David was a great solider in the Lord’s army and no one defeats the Lord. They hired people what makes them think they could trust them; they could as easily take their land instead of fighting a losing battle against Israel.
7 They are preparing for war, this is the instinct of our rather trying to fix are wrongs and make peace we ready ourselves for battle. It would have been much easier for them to make peace with David but them going to battle against him they were sure to lose. A fight against the Lord can never be won in the end.
8 So David sends his men out to defend. If they were going to war David could not the Lord’s land to be taken and have His people killed.
9 The hired help was not even with them, they spent their money poorly, and this could have been done so that the Ammonites could be destroyed and then they could go in and fight what remained of Israel, and this also could make a lack of trust between the groups.
