1 Chronicles 18:14-17 King James Version (KJV)
14 So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.
15 And Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the host; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, recorder.
16 And Zadok the son of Ahitub, and Abimelech the son of Abiathar, were the priests; and Shavsha was scribe;
17 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief about the king.

14 David was a fair king this was because he listen to God’s word and ruled as the Lord would have Him rule. David started as just the king over Judah after Saul’s death and had to gain the kingship over the rest of the tribes to become king over all Israel it was not just something he became after Saul’s death.
15 The leader of the military force was important, David would rely on this man of course David relied on the Lord but this man ran Israel’s military. It was also important to have a scribe, this scribe was to record down what David did, and this is not a scriptural view but just an historical view.
16 The priests were not chosen by David but these were the priests during David’s kingship. This royal assistant would be someone the king would have done just about anything; he sometimes would represent the king as we are to do with our King Jesus.
17 David had bodyguards and people put in charge to keep nonIsraelites in control. David put his sons into rank; this may have been done to show them responsibility to see which one would be the best king. Our King has given us responsibility and duties for us to do, we are to take care of the things our King has for us.
