Matthew 24:32-35 King James Version (KJV)
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Matthew 24:32-35 Jubilee Bible 2000 (JUB)

32 Fig trees were very common in the area most of the bible takes place and was common in the time of Jesus and was something people would have known and what they looked like as well because many people may have grown there own figs. Jesus is known as the branch and also the vine. They told the time perhaps using fig trees.
33 Jesus again refers to the end of days and His coming again, He is referring to us seeing the things He mentioned in verses before, He says you will know the time is near, we are never able to know how near or the exact time no matter what people say.
34 This is a hard verse because that generation that heard Him is long gone, but He is more likely referring to the generation that sees the things He was mentioning earlier. Some make mention that the fig tree may refer to Israel once again take there land which happen in the 1940 so with that view it means that the time is near but it is just there theory.
35 He creates both a new heaven which most likely refers to the sky and a heaven that is made for us and He makes a new earth because the one live on now will be destroyed. The Word never goes away, Jesus is called the Word and He lives. The two things on this earth that last forever is the souls of men and the Word. Some souls will face a death that does not end.
