Matthew 23:27-28King James Version (KJV)
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
Matthew 23:27-28World English Bible (WEB)
27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitened tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but inwardly are full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

27 The experts may have referred to the scribes. Graves and dead bodies were unclean and coming into contact with them would make one unclean and they would have to go thru purification process to become clean once again. Jesus is saying that they appear righteous on the outside but are sinners on the inside, they are no better than the Gentiles, in ways they could be worse off because they had the scriptures but tried to find ways around them by the oral law. We today should be more concerned with our heart than what we look like, this is not referring to what people see us do, we should take of what people see us do but more important let Him take care of our hearts so what people see is not a problem, because if we do not have it in the heart then it will not be exposed before others because it is not an issue.
28 They wanted people to think they had God’s approval this may have meant more to them then actually having God’s approval. What men think about us should be nothing to what God thinks of us. God may want us to do things that men will hate us for, the prophets were called to do this and Christ died because of this. We should look to please God because He is unchanging men change what we do one day to please men may not be what they want the next but God wants our obedience and while His will for us may lead us in other direction it will remain in the path of righteousness because God will not lead us into sin but man will.
