1 Chronicles 28:4-5 King James Version (KJV)
4 Howbeit the Lord God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
5 And of all my sons, (for the Lord hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel.

4 We need to understand that God has a special purpose for all of us, our calling, He called him to be king but He also calls us for something and by Him we can make a difference in His name.
5 Solomon was chosen by God to be the next king, David was chosen without his father being king but Solomon saw how his father served God as a king and im sure David told him about the fault he made so that Solomon also could learn from David failings. This is how we should teach leaders for the next generation not only by instructions but thru our actions as well.
