1 Chronicles 28:2-3 King James Version (KJV)
2 Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
3 But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.

I ·wanted [intended; planned; had my heart set] to build a place to keep the Ark of the ·Agreement [Testimony; Treaty; Covenant] with the Lord. I wanted it to be God’s footstool. So I made ·plans [preparations] to build ·a temple [it]. 3 But God said to me, ‘You must not build a ·temple [L house] for ·worshiping me [my name/Name], because you are a ·soldier [man of war] and have ·killed many people [shed blood; C he completed the conquest of Canaan].’

2 David was speaking of having the desire to build a temple for the Lord. David was so excited to honor the Lord by doing this gave his best to the designs because he knew God only deserved the best.
3 David wasnt to build the temple, this had to be a let down for him but he still continued serving the Lord and not giving up because he didnt get what he wanted. We dont need to give up because the Lord at times says no but instead look to where He says yes or tells us to do this instead.
