Mark 1:18-20 King James Version (KJV)
18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
19 And when he had gone a little farther thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
Mark 1:18-20 21st Century King James Version (KJ21)
18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed Him.
19 And when He had gone a little farther thence, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets.
20 And straightway He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.
18 They stopped living their normal lives and started to walk after Jesus, they knew they could go back to their nets at any point but chose to walk after Jesus because they saw something in Him worth following. Walking after Jesus doesn’t mean we stop living our lives but means we start to truly live because we are living for the giving of life.
19 It is likely that they worked together as a fishing team or that they knew each other well because of them doing the same job. Mending their nets meant they were either done for the day or they needed to fix their nets before casting them out again.
20 So Zebedee would be fishing with these hired servants, this isn’t small time fishing but fishing industry there are walking away from to follow God. Sometimes we have to walk away from small things to follow God but other times we have to walk away from the big things.
