1 Chronicles 25:1-7 King James Version (KJV)
25 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:
2 Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph under the hands of Asaph, which prophesied according to the order of the king.
3 Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.
4 Of Heman: the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamtiezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth:
5 All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.
6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, psalteries, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king's order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.
7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.

The Music Groups
25 David and the •commanders [officers] of the army chose some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to •preach [proclaim; prophesy] and play harps, lyres, and cymbals. Here is a list of the men who •served in this way [performed/were assigned these services]:
2 Asaph’s sons who served were Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. King David •chose [directed] Asaph to •preach [proclaim; prophesy], and Asaph directed his sons.
3 Jeduthun’s sons who served were Gedaliah, •Zeri [or Izri; v. 11], Jeshaiah, Shimei [C name not included in most manuscripts], Hashabiah, and Mattithiah. There were six of them, and Jeduthun directed them. He •preached [proclaimed; prophesied]and used a harp to give thanks and praise to the LORD.
4 Heman’s sons who served were Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. 5 All these were sons of Heman, David’s •seer [prophet]. God promised to •make Heman strong, so Heman had [exalt/honor him with]many sons. God gave him fourteen sons and three daughters. 6 Heman directed all his sons in •making music [singing] for the •Temple [L house] of the LORD with cymbals, lyres, and harps; that was their way of serving in the •Temple [L house] of God. King David •was in charge of [directed; supervised] Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman. 7 These men and their relatives were trained and skilled in •making music for [singing to] the LORD. There were two hundred eighty-eight •of them [with these skills; experts].

1 These men chosen were all Levites. They were to preach, proclaim the scriptures and give out God given insights from the inspiration of scripture. They were also to play worship music. They were starting worship services, similar to what we do at church services today.
2-3 These were groups of preachers they were brought up and trained for the preaching and as Levites it was there chosen duty. Some today are called to preach and need to train up in scripture we are chosen because we are apart of the family of God, if we aren’t then there is no choosing. We need to use whatever we have and can use to praise the Lord.
4-7 David being king had his own prophet which over his reign he had a couple, most likely because one passed away and he was given another. These were the men involved in the worship portion of the services. It is both important to have biblical preaching that encourages and challenges us and have worship music that helps us pour it all out to the Lord and helps refill us.
