Matthew 27:3-10 King James Version (KJV)
3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
10 And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
Matthew 27:3-10 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
3 Then Judas -- he who delivered him up -- having seen that he was condemned, having repented, brought back the thirty silverlings to the chief priests, and to the elders, saying,
4 `I did sin, having delivered up innocent blood;' and they said, `What -- to us? thou shalt see!'
5 and having cast down the silverlings in the sanctuary, he departed, and having gone away, he did strangle himself.
6 And the chief priests having taken the silverlings, said, `It is not lawful to put them to the treasury, seeing it is the price of blood;'
7 and having taken counsel, they bought with them the field of the potter, for the burial of strangers;
8 therefore was that field called, `Field of blood,' unto this day.
9 Then was fulfilled that spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, `And I took the thirty silverlings, the price of him who hath been priced, whom they of the sons of Israel did price,
10 and gave them for the field of the potter, as the Lord did appoint to me.'
These are my thoughts, please share yours.
3 Judas felt bad for what he did but went to religious leaders for help instead of seeking the Lord for forgiveness. Where do we go when we mess up do we seek God or try to make up for things by legalism?
4 Judas did truly regret what He did but went to the wrong place, where we go is even more important then feeling regret, everyone feels regret but not everyone runs for the Lord. Murder is sin but Jesus alone is innocent.
5 So Judas hangs himself, religion took him no where but death, and that is where it still leads people today, the only hope is thru Jesus.
6 This was probably a tradition of theirs even it being law they paid so they could have Jesus lose His life, so they were already involved with blood money. It didn’t bother them they killed an innocent man but does that they can’t accept the money back that they paid for Him to be betrayed.
7 They thought because they did something good with the blood money that it meant it was ok, this is how sin works we think because we do a list of works that we are ok even though we do sin but we are only good thru Jesus and turning from sin to Him.
8 The field of blood they fooled no one about what they did. This field was to bury outsiders in which shows the respect of the dead but they bought the field because they weren’t respecters of life and they themselves were dead.
9 They didn’t value Jesus, the question is do we?
10 The Lord already wrote this in scripture they had their heads full of so much pride they didn’t see the wrong that scripture showed their sins. To have an attitude like this is very dangerous if we think scripture always talks about others then ourselves.
