Matthew 26:55-56 King James Version (KJV)
55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
Matthew 26:55-56 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
55 In that hour said Jesus to the multitudes, `As against a robber ye did come forth, with swords and sticks, to take me! daily with you I was sitting teaching in the temple, and ye did not lay hold on me;
56 but all this hath come to pass, that the Writings of the prophets may be fulfilled;' then all the disciples, having left him, fled.

55 The people He was speaking to was not the Roman soldiers but the Jewish people that were with them, they could have taken hold of Him anytime and that would have been more lawful then what they did they were breaking Jewish law by meeting at night in secret and arresting Him at night. Their own precious traditions were being broken by them because they felt they had to remove Jesus, what Jesus said about them being hypocrites is showed here. Often times our passions can lead us to a place where we sin. For us to sin means that we hold what we want more then what God wants.
56 So Jesus is telling the scholars that this fulfills the prophets this would have anger them if they had not felt like they had Him and were going to get rid of Him. The disciples left and even denied Him. Before we receive Jesus we do the same thing, them leaving Him alone was as well apart of God’s plan even for the believers who turn to sin God has a plan for them to be drawn back in.
