Nehemiah 3:5-7 King James Version (KJV)
5 And next unto them the Tekoites repaired; but their nobles put not their necks to the work of their LORD.
6 Moreover the old gate repaired Jehoiada the son of Paseah, and Meshullam the son of Besodeiah; they laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, and the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.
7 And next unto them repaired Melatiah the Gibeonite, and Jadon the Meronothite, the men of Gibeon, and of Mizpah, unto the throne of the governor on this side the river.
Nehemiah 3:5-7 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
5 and by his hand have the Tekoites strengthened, and their honourable ones have not brought in their neck to the service of their Lord.
6 And the old gate have Jehoiada son of Paseah, and Meshullam son of Besodeiah, strengthened; they have walled it, and set up its doors, and its locks, and its bars.
7 And by their hand hath Melatiah the Gibeonite strengthened, and Jadon the Meronothite, men of Gibeon and of Mizpah, to the throne of the governor beyond the River.

5 Tekoites work together to make repairs but the noblemen may have thought they were to good to get their hands dirty or did not feel they had the time, I am sure they had an excuse why they refused to take part in rebuilding the wall and doing their work for the Lord often people make excuses when they don’t serve but whether there is an excuse or not it is sinful that they refused to serve the Lord. Are we ourselves being like the noblemen and not helping and letting everyone else do God’s work?
6 The old gate had repairs made to it, this made have been known as the old gate because it went to the older cities or that the gate was the first built to the wall originally. They also put much work into this gate to keep out anyone who does not need to come in.
7 The river is the Euphrates. The repairs they made are not told these men most likely worked any where they could just doing what was needed of them, this is the attitude we should have with serving the Lord be willing to work where we can to serve Him.
